Just when you thought Disney couldn’t possibly find another feature to remake and reboot, they pick “Home Alone.” Sure, a product of its time in the days before cell phones, this Chris Columbus-directed, John Hughes written, John Williams‘ scored holiday film is one of the greats. Fight. Us.
Which brings us to today’s news, confirming the reboot/remake coming exclusively to Disney+. Included was casting confirmations- Archie Yates (“Jojo Rabbit“) will be taking on the lead as Max Mercer, young boy left behind while his family vacations in Japan.
Other confirmed cast include Ellie Kemper (“The Office,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt“), Rob Delaney (Peter from “Deadpool 2”), Aisling Bea (“Living with Yourself”), Kenan Thompson (“Saturday Night Live”), Tim Simons (“Veep”), Pete Holmes (“The Secret Life of Pets 2”), Ally Maki (“Toy Story 4”), and Chris Parnell (“SNL,” “Archer“).
But buried in the casting list includes a pretty awesome “Home Alone” throwback- Devin Ratray, who played Kevin McCallister’s bully older brother Buzz, will appear in the film.
“Dirty Grandpa” helmer Dan Mazer directs from a screenplay by “Saturnday Night Live” alum Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. Hutch Parker (“X-Men: Dark Phoenix”) and Dan Wilson (“Patriots Day”) serve as producers, with Jeremiah Samuels (“Stuber”) as executive producer
“Home Sweet Home Alone” is set to hit Disney+ on November 12th, 2021.
