Let’s Talk About That New “Spider-Man: No Way Home” Trailer

After MANY months of teases and waiting, yesterday fans were treated to a brand new trailer for Sony Pictures’ upcoming “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Perhaps one of the most anticipated films in the Spider-Verse (other than, you know, “Into the Spider-Verse 2“), this film has a little bit of everything.

So, please enjoy this gallery of images taken from the official trailer, so we can dive into some details…

We knew, as teased in recent Marvel Studios projects, that the multiverse was something on the way. Heck, the Doctor Strange sequel even has it right there in the title, “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.” Maybe this is where the madness sets in, because honestly the Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) we see in this trailer is….different. There is a fan theory that maybe, just maybe, this ISN’T the Doctor Strange we know and love, and is instead…an imposter.

We knew that Alfred Molina was coming back as Dr. Otto Octavius (mainly from the actor himself just sorta putting it out there back in April of this year). We kinda assumed, from that detail and the likely multiverse pivot, that additional baddies were possible. Then the rumor mill kicked into high gear, and suddenly we were hearing things like Willem Dafoe would be back as Norman Osborn (aka Green Goblin) from Sam Raimi‘s “Spider-Man” films starring Tobey McGuire. THEN, the idea of maybe other Spider-persons appearing took hold. An idea that seems way more likely after this trailer.

So, the pretty badass lookin’ black and gold suit we see on display during the Electro (Jaimie Fox) showdown? Apparently it’s just Peter (Tom Holland‘s) regular suit, worn inside out.

We know now after seeing the trailer that those villain rumors are absolutely true, minus Paul Giamatti as Rhino, and Michael Keaton as Vulture. We’re pretty sure they’ll make appearances though, especially since freaking Sandman (Thomas Hayden Church) gets featured?! You’ll also notice a different Green Goblin on the glider, which sure looks like the Dane DeHaan Harry Osborn version from Andrew Garfield‘s “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Although reports do indicate it’s not DeHann, so maybe that means it’s James Franco‘s Harry? Or, the more prevalent theory- maybe it’s Ned (Jacob Batalon). We also see flashes of Dr. Curt Conners as The Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans in the Garfield films.

Let’s be honest, the REAL villains we’re hoping for are Joe Manganiello as Flash Thompson and Bruce Campbell as as that damn snotty usher. We would also include Macho Man Randy Savage as Bonesaw McGraw, but we lost the iconic wrestler back in 2011.

One of our biggest concerns though is the end bit, where it sure looks like director Jon Watts is gonna Gwen Stacy Zendaya as Mary Jane Watson. Seriously, what else are we supposed to think by the scene of MJ falling off a high structure and Peter rushing to save her? Ooof, talk about trauma we weren’t ready for the LAST time they did it with Emma Stone‘s Gwen dying in Andrew Garfield’s arms.

But please, leave Aunt Mae (Marissa Tomei) and Happy (Jon Favreau) alone!

Tickets for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” go on sale Cyber Monday, November 29th 2021. The film webslings into theaters on December 17th, 2021.
