Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn is Feelin’ Herself in “The Suicide Squad”

Margot Robbie recently shared a bit of how her character Harley Quinn will have changed in “The Suicide Squad” film. Instead of her previous performances that were connected with The Joker, this time she’ll be confident and empowered all by her own volition.

Remember in the first “Suicide Squad” movie where she thought Joker would save her? Or how about in “Birds of Prey” where she wasn’t quite so sure of herself. Well according to Robbie, this next “The Suicide Squad” film directed by James Gunn Harley gets quite a bit of character development.

While speaking to the Toronto Sun, Robbie said:

“I think in the first Suicide Squad film she had a certain confidence and cockiness, knowing that she had the protection of the Joker. She was like, ‘I’ll go on this mission, and he’ll get me out of here in a second.’ That was kind of her prerogative on that film. Then in Birds of Prey it was, ‘Oh s—, it’s a scary, cold world. Maybe I can’t do it.’

In this film, time has passed, it doesn’t directly link to either of those films, but it’s not something that Harley is wrestling with anymore. She’s not waiting for Mr. J to show up and she’s not wondering if she can do it on her own. She knows.”

We’re looking forward to seeing this new version of Harley. Any portrayal where she’s not locked down by thoughts of Joker is going to be a welcome change. She started out as a very established psychiatrist for goodness sake. I know women go through that bad boy phase (I know I did) but it’s about time she realizes her own worth. And from what Robbie is saying that sounds like what were about to see.

“The Suicide Squad” is set to hit theaters on August 6th, 2021. You can see the latest trailer here.
