Before you ask, no unfortunately this won’t actually work as a functional typewriter. BUT, if you ever wanted to know how the mechanics of one worked, this would make for an awesome teaching tool.
LEGO Ideas is releasing this typewriter build set inspired by the one that builder Steve Guinness submitted. They took his design and mushed it together with the one LEGO Group founder Ole Kirk Kristiansen used in the 1950s.
The set will have 2,079 pieces and has working parts such as a carriage that moves back and fourth. The keys are functional and move the brackets inside the machine. There’s even a roller that will accept a sheet of paper and roll it through and a red and black fabric ink spool ribbon.
This set is considered very hard and is recommended for ages 18+. You can find the link to the product by clicking here. It will be released July 1st, 2021.
