When it rains, it pours. After we learned that Square Enix delayed Final Fantasy VII Remake and Crystal Dynamics‘ their Marvel’s Avengers title, CD Projekt Red announced earlier today that Cyberpunk 2077 will be delayed in favor of a September 17th release over the originally planned April launch date.
Below is the statement made by CD Projekt Red this morning:

Cyberpunk 2077 is a first person, open world RPG based on the tabletop gaming franchise Cyberpunk. The player customizes their own mercenary armed with weapons, melee combat skills and hacking capabilities. Taking place in a dystopian night city, Cyberpunk 2077 features six distinct regions for the players to explore. Stats like intelligence, reflex and more will be affected by your class choice, of which you have three (Netrunner, techie and solo).
With character customization, talent trees/perks available, we’ll be sure to have the ability to tailor our combat and approach to the game in many different ways. It’s no wonder that CD Projekt Red requires more time for fine tuning!

Having been announced all the way back in May of 2012, it’s safe to say CDPR has been hard at work on something of tremendous scope. As mentioned dozens of times before, we all have to keep in mind that delays with the intention to release a polished product at launch is a good thing for consumers.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases for the PS4, XBONE, PC and Google Stadia on September 17th, 2020.
