There Was A Sort Of Nirvana Reunion On Saturday

On Saturday night this past weekend, Dave Grohl (you should know who he is by now) held the 2020 installment of his Heaven Is Rock And Roll Galla at the Hollywood Palladium. If you’re not familiar with the event, technically it’s a benefit for the Art Of Elysium which is an organization that supports individuals during troubling times and offers a wide range of services to different communities. Naturally these types of charities need money to continue doing the work they do. And there’s nothing more Los Angeles than a super exclusive fundraiser where the surviving members of Nirvana reunited for a once in a lifetime performance.

    Wait… what?

I’m not joking. If you were fortunate enough to be invited to attend, yes… you had to be invited to buy tickets, you were treated to the closest thing to a Nirvana reunion that we could get in 2020. I’m talking Krist Novoselic on bass, Pat Smear on guitar, with Grohl on the drums. Then, as if the three remaining members of Nirvana performing together, wasn’t the coolest concert you’d ever see, Grohl recruited Beck and St. Vincent to provide vocals and additional guitar support.

Check out the below clip from St. Vincent’s Instagram of the group crushing the Nirvana classic “In Bloom”.

The set also included “Lithium”, “Been A Son”, “The Man Who Sold The World” and Violet Grohl, Dave’s daughter, took the lead on “Heart Shaped Box”.

One day I hope to cool slash rich enough to attend this event. I can only imagine what Grohl has in store for next year.
