    ‘The Invisible Man’ Wraps Filming

Director Leigh Whannell announced on twitter that the remake of The Invisible Man, which began filming on July 16, has wrapped production. Whannell is also an executive producer for the film and wrote this latest take on the classic H. G. Wells novel. The Invisible Man is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse productions as well as Kylie du Fresne of Goalpost Pictures; Nervous Tick is producing for Universal.

Initially, The Invisible Man was going to be part of Universal’s shared monster universe with Johnny Depp in the title role. After the poor showing of Tom Cruise’s The Mummy Universal’s plans for its Dark Universe changed, with less interconnection between its smaller scale monster movies. Whannell was hired to write and direct in January 2019.

Whannell is no stranger to the horror genre. He was a co-creator of the Saw universe with James Wan, having written the initial 2004 film and co-written the second and third films. Whannell also wrote Dead Silence (2007), Insidious (2010), and Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013). He directed Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) and the recent sci-fi film Upgrade (2018).

While there have been a number of adaptations of The Invisible Man since the classic 1933 movie, it seems that Whannell has put a different spin on the classic tale. The upcoming movie stars Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass, a woman who flees her violent and controlling boyfriend, a wealthy scientist played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen in the title role. After her ex-boyfriend’s supposed suicide, strange things begin to happen to Cecilia and she suspects her ex is still alive; however, she has trouble convincing anyone she is being stalked by a person nobody can see and her sanity begins to unravel.

The Invisible Man is set for release on February 28, 2020.

I am still waiting for that blue police box to take me on a star trek to a galaxy far, far away. Until then I will have to content myself with fantasy and sci-fi adventures from books, movies, and TV shows.
