We’re cautiously optimistic about the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures live-action adaptation of “Mulan.” With Niki Caro (“Whale Rider”) directing, we were automatically interested to see what the ancient Chinese legend would entail in a new version. If you’ll recall, it was announced earlier this month that the film, a multi-million-dollar production, would be skipping full theatrical release due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, after being delayed several times in 2020. Another day in 2020, another report that Walt Disney Studios REALLY thinks FOX’s “The New Mutants” will have an actual, honest-to-goodness theatrical release next week on August 28th.As of this morning, tickets for Josh Boone’s very late Marvel Comics X-Men spinoff flick went on sale, for a very hopeful fanbase. If you’ll recall, we were absolutely THRILLED to report that Ernest Cline has a sequel to “Ready Player One” coming out later this year titled, of course, “Ready Player Two.” The awesomeness doesn’t stop there, as it turns out Wil Wheaton (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”) will be returning to narrate the audiobook. Yes, a new “Space Jam” film is still happening. Yesterday LeBron James shared the first look at his Toon Squad jersey, as well as revealing the title of the sequel. “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was directed by Malcolm D. Lee (“Night School”), who replaced the project’s original helmer Terence Nance, who left the project (along with cinematographer Bradford Young). “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler co-wrote the script with Sev Ohanian. The pair also produced the film for Warner Bros. Pictures. Kris Bowers and Hans Zimmer composed the score, which we’re assuming will have that original “Space Jam” track featured in James’ tweet. We are very pleased to report that Elizabeth Debicki (“The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”) will be joining the final two seasons as Princess Diana Spencer. The announcement was made today on Netflix series “The Crown” official Twitter account (as have pretty much every single major casting notice since the series began). And, before you ask, Princess Diana was 5’10, and Debicki is listed as 6’3.
