Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

One of the ultimate live concert films, “Queen Rock Montreal” has gotten an epic remaster, and will be released for the first time in IMAX! This 4K remaster was apparently tailored specifically for the IMAX screen, complete with 12-channel surround sound, crystal-clear images, and customized theater geometry. “This larger-than-life, front-row immersive experience” consists of footage from a pair of Queen performances at Montreal’s Forum in 1981. “I don’t think we quite realized it at the time, but this film has preserved one of the highest peaks in Queen’s touring life, on stage in the old glory days,” guitarist Brian May said…

Oh yeah, a third “Sonic The Hedgehog” live-action film is in the works, and today, we got our first look at it. Kinda sorta. It’s a simple photo, featuring a pair of sneakers and white-gloved fists, standing next to clapboard with a release date on it. Shadow the Hedgehog, that you? Jeff Fowler, who helmed “Sonic 2,” is directing this third outing, which is rumored to introduce the character of Shadow. Sure looks like that’s the case with this image! Ben Schwartz is back as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey (who originally voiced the character) as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and…

Sometime-divisive filmmaker Zack Snyder has another big film on the horizon. “Rebel Moon- Part One: Child of Fire” has all the trappings of a wannabe science-fiction epic, with the dark and brooding moody lighting we’ve come to expect from Snyder. The trailers show us a gritty intense setting, with some pretty beautiful costumes and visuals. We’re not gonna lie, we’re pretty interested in see it. But we can’t talk about Snyder without touching on his shepherding the DCEU at Warner Bros. Pictures. “Man of Steel,” the superhero film which reinvigorated live-action DC Comics adaptations, remains a tentpole of the genre.…

There are few actors who could’ve brought characters like Indiana Jones and Han Solo to the big screen with such charm, wit, and heart as the one and only Harrison Ford. Sorta the patron saint of the everyman actor who happens to have the face of a Hollywood star, the masterful comedic timing of a Vaudeville great, and finger of doom- Ford has been a force to be reckoned with in his near 60-year career. Lucasfilm and Disney+ sure know what they’ve got here in their leading man, so it’s only natural a new, feature-length (yay!) documentary all about the…

Thanks to Vanity Fair, we have our first look at Prime Video’s upcoming live-action “Fallout” series. Based on the highly popular franchise from Bethesda, this looks to be AMAZING. HBO’s “Westworld” co-creators/showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan developed the series. Ella Purnell plays Lucy, a vault dweller, and Kyle MacLachlan plays her father, vault overseer Hank.  “Lucy is charming and plucky and strong,” Jonathan Nolan said. “And then you see she’s confronted with the reality of, hey, maybe the supposedly virtuous things you grew up with are not necessarily that virtuous. If they are virtuous, they’re couched in a circumstantial virtuousness. It’s a luxury…

Perhaps the greatest film ever told about rock n roll is getting an official sequel. We’re talking of course about the 1984 rockumentary about Britain’s loudest band, Spinal Tap. From director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner), the classic spoof-but-with-actual-music tells the tale of David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tuffnel (Christopher Guest), Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and a rotating cast of drummers who meet untimely ends.Guest stars include a very young (now SAG-AFTRA President) Fran Drechser, Paul Shaffer, Angelia Houston, Billy Crystal, Ed Begly Jr., and the late Fred Willard. In May of 2022, an honest-to-goodness sequel was announced, with the…

This just in-Noah Hawley’s upcoming “Alien” series for FX just got a pretty serious casting edition. Timothy Olyphant, who we love most for his time in “Deadwood” and obviously “Justified,” has reportedly joined the show. We’re not sure who he’ll be playing yet- terrestrial Colonial Marine, representative of ‘The Company,’ maybe even a synth! UPDATE- Some outlets *are* saying Olyphant will play an android character named Kirsh. He joins already confirmed cast members Alex Lawther (“The End of the F*cking World“) , Samuel Blenkin (“Black Mirror“), Essie Davis (“The Babadook,” “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries)”,  Adarsh Gourav (“The White Tiger“), and Sydney Chandler. This story is developing…
