Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

“The beginning is a delicate time.” Princess Irulan, is that you!? Apparently Oscar nominated actress Florence Pugh is in talks to join Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming “Dune Part Two.”Out of all the available roles yet to be cast, the one that makes the most sense is Princess Irulan, daughter of the Paddishaw Emperor Shaddam IV. She becomes a bit of a foil for Chani and Paul as things progress later in the source novels. In David Lynch’s seminal 1984 version of “Dune,” Irulan was played by Virginia Madsen. This casting would be interesting, as Pugh played opposite Timothée Chalamet in Greta Gerwig’s…

We really didn’t have ‘demon stone prison shattering’ on our 2022 bingo card. But it probably tracks with the year we’re having, right? Sessho-seki, the “Killing Stone,” which legend claims to be the transformed body of nine-tailed fox demon Tamamo-no-Mae, has split in two. I’ll admit it, at first I didn’t really understand why everyone loved “Ted Lasso.” AppleTV+’s series about an American football coach heading to England to the premiere soccer league seemed…too outlandish. And not in a science-fiction series way, or a breaking the 4th wall in every single scene way. It was TOO positive, too joyful. People like Ted (Jason Sudeikis) just don’t exist in real life. But around episode 3, something clicked. I got it. I understood, and fell in love with the show. Ok, mostly Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein). “Ted Lasso” really is a drop of sunshine in an otherwise…
