Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

If there’s one natural disaster adjacent-film from the mid 90s we still quote with our best friends, it’s Jan de Bont’s “Twister.” What? It’s super quotable! Also, with a cast like Helen Hunt, Lois Smith, Jamie Gertz, Cary Elwes, as well as the late great Bill Paxton and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, how can you go wrong? Throw in some cows, and you’ve got yourself a classic of summer blockbusters.Which is maybe why Universal Pictures greenlit, at long last, another tornado-themed film. It’s called “Twisters.” Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari”) directs. Glenn Powell (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “Lessons in Chemistry”) stars,…

Get ready to return to the “Planet of The Apes” with a new installment in the long-running franchise from Wes Ball (“The Maze Runner”). Supposedly, this film will act as a bridge between Matt Reeves’ how-it-happened trilogy and original films from the 1970s. [Editor’s note: because other than the pretty impressive makeup from Tim Burton‘s 2001 “Apes” film, we should all forget it happened.] The project was first announced by Fox in 2019. In 2022, the title and concept art for the fourth Apes installment were revealed, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come. Early reports indicated this would be a story taking place decades…

Are you as excited as we are for the return of the Merc with a Mouth? Ryan Reynolds is back for a third film, and at long last, we have an official teaser for it.Okay but…we seriously can’t get over that destroyed 20th Century Fox statue ala “Planet of the Apes.” “Deadpool & Wolverine” is under the direction of Shawn Levy, who worked with Reynolds on “The Adam Project” and “Free Guy.” Levy also worked with co-star Hugh Jackman on “Real Steel.” Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the scripts for the first and second films, are back this time, too. We know Emma Corrin (“The Crown“) and Matthew Macfayden (“Succession“) have…

When word first hit in the early 2000s that a musical based on “The Wizard of Oz” was coming, everyone kinda had the same thought. “We already have that. It’s called ‘The Wiz,’ and it’s great.” But things slowly were revealed about this new take- it would be different, there would be no Dorothy (technically), and it would be a prequel about the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda. Needless to say, when it finally premiered in 2003, it REALLY took the world by storm. Kinda surprising honestly that it’s taken so long to get a film version done…

We can all agree that Dan Trachtenberg’s take on the classic galactic hunter “Predator” was great, right? Like, truly great? 2022’s “Prey” was the perfect way to reintroduce/reinvigorate a not-quite-stagnant but not-quite-exciting-anymore franchise. And, luckily for fans of that film, we’re getting another one!Announced today, Trachtenberg (“10 Cloverfield Lane”) is currently developing another film in the “Predator” universe. Called “Badlands,” it will NOT be a sequel to “Prey,” but will also have a female lead. At present, details about casting and/or plot are being kept very hush-hush. We’ll also be getting Noah Hawley’s (“Fargo,” “Legion”) “Alien” tv series and Fede…

If you’re a fan of Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” live-action hybrid movies, you’ll probably be excited for the upcoming spinoff series, “Knuckles.” Starring Idris Elba as the red Echidna and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, we don’t actually know who’s voicing Sonic. Kinda weird. Jeff Fowler, who directed the first two “Sonic” films, will helm the series. The new live-action series will follow Knuckles (Elba) on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade (Adam Pally) as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior. The series takes place between the films “SONIC…
