Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

Ok so it does make SOME amount of sense that yet-another Steven King adaptation would get some kind of update today, the spookiest day of the year. Warner Bros. Pictures’ long-gestating “Salem’s Lot” reboot did premiere a trailer during CinemaCon 2022, and we expected some kind of update on a release by now. Most industry insiders were expecting at least another trailer, and maybe news of a theatrical release, likely during….you know…Halloween? But, that obviously didn’t happen.According to Variety, word on the Hollywood street is that the film is now headed to streaming on WB’s MAX. It’s worth noting that Warner…

Please don’t get us wrong- we still have very high hopes for Nia DaCosta’s (“Candyman”) “Captain Marvel” sequel, “The Marvels.” But, it sure seems like Marvel Studios and most of online court of opinions have given up on the flick. Early box office tracking made it look like the 32nd MCU release might be bowing with the lowest take yet. This is unfortunate, for many reasons. DaCosta is a great director, and her addition to the continual boys’ club in the MCU is a welcome one. This, paired with the still-ongoing narrative of Oscar winner Brie Larson “not being nice…

We all know one of those guys who thinks Tyler Durden is the coolest. These are usually the same who don’t really understand the actual point of “Fight Club.” The 1999 film based on Chuck Palahniuk’s novel of the same name has had it’s fair share of popularity. We don’t mean to say it’s only one kind of person who enjoys the book and film, but, it sure seems like they’re the most….vocal? This is actually a topic director David Fincher was confronted with recently. Namely, how the far right and incels have co-opted the film and character into a…

This just in- a completed series we were REALLY excited for, that Disney+ passed on, WILL see the light of day! “Nautilus,” which will be a prequel of sorts for “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” all about one Captain Nemo, has been saved by AMC. “Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes,” Ben Davis, EVP of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios said in a statement. “We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC+ and AMC as…

What would the tail end of spooky season be without one more classic horror property getting a new adaptation? We’re speaking of course about today’s news that Amazon MGM Studios is eyeing “Poltergeist” for a tv series. The classic film from director Tobe Hooper and producer Steven Spielberg has long been a favorite. It starred Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams as the Freelings, who had to deal with their brand-new housing development being built on a Native burial ground. There was an attempt at a reboot in 2015 starring Sam Rockwell, which was disappointing to say the least. At…

Hollywood and beyond is still in a state of shock following the tragic passing of author and actor, Matthew Perry. While best known for his role of Chandler Bing on hit sitcom “FRIENDS,” Perry was also an accomplished dramatic actor with stints on “The West Wing,” among other projects. His biggest role, in his own words, was his activism to help friends find and keep sobriety. Perry himself struggled with addiction and substance abuse for much of his adult life. He was always very open and honest about it, and was the first person to offer a safe space for…

We wanna start by saying we don’t REALLY think there was anything nefarious at work in Joe Russo’s recent post. Joe Russo is one half of the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony), best known for “Community,” and a little thing called Marvel Studios’ box office shattering releases. So, you know, PROBABLY snark and comedy rather than anger and one-upmanship. Decorated American director Martin Scorsese has not held back with his feelings re: superhero films. He’s acknowledged them as sort of snack food for the masses, but lacking true artistry and heart of what cinema is meant to be. This of…
