Between the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, most big-budget films and tv shows halted production. Some projects continued under interim agreements, which meant the studios making them followed fair contracts with both unions. Both strikes have now come to an end, so we’ll theoretically see production start to pick up again. Kid-centric restaurant Chuck E. Cheese has announced they will be removing their signature animatronics from all but one location. The robotic musical group, Munch’s Make Believe Band, will now only be found at the restaurant’s location in Northridge, California, near Los Angeles. This animatronic act includes Mr. Munch on keyboards, Jasper T. Jowls on guitar, Helen Henny on vocals, and Pasqually on drums. Chuck E. Originally slated for July 5th, Disney has pushed back the release of “Mufasa: The Lion King” until Christmas 2024. This upcoming live-action prequel to “The Lion King” is just the latest in a long string of release date moves. With both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes at an end, Hollywood can start production on several projects again. “Mufasa: The Lion King” is directed by Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”), from a script from Jeff Nathanson. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) latest entry “The Marvels” has climbed from rotten to fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Soon after the film’s premier, it was ranked at 55% critically, and gained mostly mixed reviews. While many love the cast, the overall plot and villain didn’t seem to be landing with them. Now that “The Marvels” has had a wide release, its ranking on Rotten Tomatoes has climbed to a 62% with critics, making it Fresh. Audience rating is up to 85%. A24 is developing an Elon Musk biopic, with Darren Aronofsky (“Requiem for a Dream,” “Black Swan”) attached to direct. The film is reported to be based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography, “Musk.” Isaacson also wrote the book “Steve Jobs,” which became the basis of Danny Boyle’s Oscar-nominated 2015 film, starring Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet. Musk is probably best known for founding SpaceX in 2002. A few years later he invested in Tesla and eventually became the CEO of the innovative electric automaker. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is cancelling his trip to a galaxy far, far away. Feige has confirmed his “Star Wars” project will not be moving forward. He will instead be focusing on the dozens of MCU films and tv shows currently running and in development. STARZ is giving “Spartacus” fans an unexpected treat- a new 10-episode drama series “Spartacus: House of Ashur.” This upcoming series will see the return of franchise staple Steven S. DeKnight working as showrunner and executive producer. “Spartacus: House of Ashur” will also see the return of Nick Tarabay reprising his role of the titular Ashur. Filmmaker Justine Bateman posted a no-nonsense breakdown of the AI protections that she thinks are needed to end the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
