Lionsgate is currently developing a film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 novel, “The Long Walk.” It has just been announced, that Judy Greer (“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”) and Mark Hamill (“The Life of Chuck,” “Star Wars”) have joined the cast! The film is being directed by Francis Lawrence (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”) from a script by JT Mollner.

    “The Long Walk”

King’s novel was originally published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States run by a totalitarian empire. Under this regime, teenagers are forced to participate in the “long walk,” a contest where they must walk along a major East Coast highway without stopping. The rules state, that if one of the participants stops for more than 90 seconds total they will be killed. And if the threat of death isn’t enough to incentivize them, the winner also receives a cash prize.

While plot details for the film are still under wraps. It’s probably safe to assume core story elements will stay the same.

    The Cast So Far

Greer and Hamill will be joining the already announced cast of Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, and Charlie Plummer. Along with Ben Wang, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, and Roman Griffin Davis.

Lawrence will also be producing the project with Roy Lee, Cameron MacConomy, and Steven Schneider. Meredith Wieck and Erin Jones-Wesley will be overseeing for Lionsgate.

There is no set release date for  “The Long Walk” just yet. Production is already underway in Manitoba, and is expected to continue through the summer. We’ll keep you posted on updates as they become available.
