During CinemaCon last week, Lionsgate and Blumhouse announced they were developing a new “Blair Witch Project” movie. This news came as a surprise to many, including the team behind the original 1999 film. While this isn’t the first time the crew was cut out of follow-up films, they at least knew about those.  “It’s bittersweet, honestly,” Ben Rock, production designer for “The Blair Witch Project” told The Hollywood Reporter about the reboot. Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed filmmaker Justin Lin (“Fast and the Furious,” “Star Trek Beyond”) will direct crime thriller “Stakehorse.” This is the first feature-length script for Justin Piasecki, but it made such a stir it topped 2023’s Black List. A project that surveys hundreds of Hollywood film industry executives about their favorite unproduced screenplays from that calendar year. After many decades on the air, “Saturday Night Live” (“SNL”) has developed a reputation for putting celebrity hosts into zany getups. This week was no exception with three-time host Ryan Gosling dressing as Beavis from Mike Judge’s “Beavis and Butt-Head.”  The SNL sketch kicks off with a discussion between an expert on artificial intelligence (Kenan Thompson) and a reporter (Heidi Gardner). Since January, there have been rumblings about a new “Star Trek” origin story film. Paramount Studios has officially added the project to its 2025 theatrical release schedule. The currently untitled movie is said to take place decades before JJ Abrams’ 2009 “Star Trek.” The film was mentioned during Paramount’s annual CinemaCon panel on April 11th. It was also included in their slate of upcoming releases sent to the press. One of the things most fans love about James Gunn (“Guardians of The Galaxy”) is his willingness to share about upcoming projects. Universal Studios helped build its reputation on the backs of its iconic movie monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, the Invisible Man, and the Wolf Man.
