Universal Studios’ upcoming theme park in the UK has just made a huge step towards becoming a reality. The park has been given planning permission to start developing the site located in Kempston Hardwick, close to Bedford. The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government has officially issued a Special Development Order (SDO) for the complex to be built. The new park is expected to draw more than 8 million visitors a year. Oscar-winning filmmaker Sir Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”) isn’t known for making small-scale films. But his next undertaking is by far the biggest, adapting Homer’s epic “The Odyssey.” Nolan is directing and adapting the script from the 24 books that comprise the tale, plus producing with his wife, Dame Emma Thomas. The entire film is shot in IMAX. Written around the 8th century BC, Homer’s “The Odyssey” is a timeless work of Greek literature. Disney has another live-action reboot of an animated title in the works. The character Gaston from “Beauty and the Beast” may finally be getting his long-gestating film. Dave Callaham (“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”) is writing the script with Michelle Rejwan producing. A script for this movie was previously written by Kate Herron and Briony Redman (“Doctor Who”). Each year, dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster picks a word that sums up its essence. The company has announced 2025’s word of the year is ‘slop.’ It is defined as “digital content of low quality that is produced usually in quantity by means of artificial intelligence.” This term condenses the never ending barrage of AI-generated content taking over the internet, down to just 4 letters. Bandai Namco Filmworks and Fathom Entertainment are teaming up for the first-ever Gundam Premiere Night double feature. The limited event will be the theatrical premieres of “Special Edition: Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt “-Path of the Little Challenger-”” and “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Special Edition.” The latter of which will be shown in 4K with exclusive bonus content. It looks like Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, is planning on making some big changes to the park. The company has filed for permits with Los Angeles County to potentially demolish 2 long-standing rides. One demolition permit was filed for the almost 80-year-old Magic Flyer kids’ roller coaster. We have some potentially exciting news about Prime Video’s live-action “Tomb Raider” series. It seems that Sigourney Weaver (“Avatar: Fire and Ash”) is in talks to potentially join the show. Weaver would be starring opposite Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”), who will play Lara Croft. Jonathan Van Tulleken (“Shōgun”) is set to direct this adaptation of the popular video game franchise, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Killing Eve”) serving as creator and writer.
