Very few careers are as lucky to include a second act as rich and popular as Bob Odenkirk’s. While he was known in smaller circles for his comedic talents, largely displayed on “Mr. Show with Bob and David” and as a writer for “Saturday Night Live,” it was his stint as Saul Goodman on “Breaking Bad” that made him a household name. With spin-off “Better Call Saul” having wrapped up last year, Odenkirk has been free to take on more projects, such as joining the cast of FX’ on Hulu’s “The Bear.” “The Bear” is a darkly comedic-drama that tells…

Yes, we’ve covered a lot of casting news about the “Frasier” revival, but this might be the biggest news yet. Throughout the lead up to this series being developed and announced, there was repeated emphasis that the original cast would not be returning. Whether this was meant to be kept secret for a while, or a change of heart happened, we are thrilled to know that Frasier’s old radio producer, Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin) will be guest appearing in the upcoming show. Other minor characters from the shared “Frasier” – “Cheers” universe are also appearing. Notably Frasier’s son Freddy, and…
There are few stories that have become as famous and adapted in various forms as that of “The Seven Samurai.” Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 masterpiece has been referenced so many times, it has its own trope on TV Tropes for when another piece of media makes reference of its plot and structure. One of the more notable adaptations is the 1960 American western film “The Magnificent Seven.” It featured an all-star cast of the time, including Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn. In 2016, the film was remade with a new batch of all-stars for Sony pictures, but…
There have been a good number of tremendously effective horror films that have originated outside the US with Italy and Japan having made an impact on the genre over the decades. More recently, one of the most effective psychology horror films came to the international community via Denmark in the form of “Speak No Evil.” The 2022 film, titled “Gæsterne” in its native Danish, met with strong critical reception, including us. And is the case with many a successful foreign horror film, an American remake is not just being spoken of, but forming its cast. The film involves two couples…
It’s been a good but potentially bittersweet day for the creative team of Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg. In 2017 they, along with Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett brought the animated series, “Big Mouth” to Netflix. The raunchy comedy series about seventh graders experiencing puberty and hormones depicted as literal monsters achieved critical and ratings success for the streaming platform. Indeed it proved popular enough to warrant a spin-off series last year, “Human Resources,” about the hormone monsters themselves and their workplace. The sweet part of the news is both of the series have been picked up for an 8th…
It’s an absolute shocker of a news item to drop when the CEO of one of the largest media companies in the world suddenly announces they’ve leaving their company. That’s exactly what happened on April 23rd, 2023. NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell announced his immediate departure, following what was termed an “inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company.” Shell’s comment on the matter was all of two sentences long, and amounted to stating the reason for his departure and his apologies and gratitude to the NBCUniversal parent company, Comcast. For the time being, Comcast president Mike Cavanagh will step in…
When you win a Pulitzer Prize, you have to imagine you’re doing something right. In 2021, BuzzFeed News did just that following an article series regarding the detention of thousands of Muslims in China. You’d think that would be enough to cement your future in journalism for years to come. Two years later though and BuzzFeed News will no longer have a chance to win such a prestigious award again as the entire division is shutting down. On April 20th, BuzzFeed’s Chief Executive Jonah Peretti announced 15% of the the company’s workforce would be laid off, including its entire news…
Few programs still court controversy the way that “South Park” does. The long-running Comedy Central program has stirred up political, religious, and social debate on many occasions, and now its stirring up legal ones. Warner Bros. Discovery filed suit against Paramount Global, regarding streaming rights to the cartoon. In a not too surprising twist, Paramount has fired back with their own lawsuit, and there’s no “Chewbacca Defense” in sight for either party. In February, Warner Bros. Discovery sued Paramount Global claiming they had violated the terms of the contract for streaming “South Park.” The countersuit from Paramount seeks $50 million…
Oh cream cheese, how we love you. We love you so much we even did a story about a limited time restaurant where the dishes were all inspired by Philadelphia cream cheese. Heck, one of our writers even rewrote the Neil Diamond song, “Forever in Blue Jeans” to be titled, “Forever With Cream Cheese.” And now he’s writing this article about how Philadelphia has teamed up with H&H Bagels to create a cream cheese stuffed bagel, and flaunt tax loopholes at the same time! So, what is this cream cheese stuffed modern marvel? Well, it’s a fully cooked bagel that…
On November 5th, 2022, Aaron Carter passed away. The pop star, actor, and younger brother of Backstreet Boys member, Nick Carter, Aaron found success in Europe and the United States in the late 90s and early 2000’s. Like many child stars, Aaron’s journey through life was filled with controversy including financial hardships, legal battles, and drug use. We are sad to report that ultimately, it was the latter of those issues that contributed to his passing. It’s not easy to report on a subject like this since the details of anyone’s death can be hard to read and arguably better…
