Back in 2008, director Danny Boyle took home in Oscar for Best Director for “Slumdog Millionaire.” The movie actually cleaned house at the Academy Awards, nabbing Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song, and Best Picture, amongst others. It arguably hasn’t aged as well as other winners for Best Pictures in that its seldom talked about, but it’s also arguably a much better picture than “Green Book” or “Crash.” So with its place in Oscar history firmly planted somewhere in the middle, and its strong box office success back in the day, sounds like it’s time for a sequel! If you…

It’s a sad day in the world of comedy. There are some films that are so influential that they changed the course of how comedies are perceived. “Airplane!” was one of those films. By combining deadpan delivery, constant visual gags, and a supreme sense of parody and satire, the film became a beloved staple in popular culture. We’re sad to report that Jim Abrahams, one of the creative forces behind that film and others, has passed away. Jim Abrahams was the letter A in the writing and production team commonly referred to as “ZAZ.” The Z’s were his friends, brothers…
Across numerous iterations, most recently a successful run on Netflix, the “Voltron” franchise has continued to etch itself deeper into pop culture across several generations. We’re happy to report the project is coming together even stronger, in a way that is going to make this upcoming live-action feature film a reality. Amazon is handling the film through its MGM leg. Rawson Marshall Thurber (“Red Notice,” “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”) will direct. Henry Cavill will star. Just like the Voltron team filling out its roster of pilots, we now know Rita Ora, Oscar nominee Sterling K. Brown, and John Kim…
We enjoy the “God of War” gaming franchise here at Nerdbot. The original games with their stylish, aggressive combat, and the older Kratos series that relies more on storytelling and over-the-shoulder combat and puzzle solving. We also can’t deny that the newer take on the Ghost of Sparta has really brought us in thanks to the musical work of Emmy winner Bear McCreary, and the performance of Christopher Judge. When Judge talks, we listen, and he recently set the record straight on rumors regarding upcoming “God of War franchise news and announcements. Rumors are NOT news, but sometimes a leak…
Five years ago, Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan took the art world for a ride when he unveiled his piece, “Comedian.” The name of the piece is very much self-aware considering the art itself is just a banana duct taped to a wall. It’s concept art, in the way that John Cage’s silent musical composition “4’33″” is a song. It’s the idea that is the art, not so much the actual aesthetic. Either way, a crypto investor just bought that banana and duct tape at auction for $6 million. To be completely fair, there are three editions of “Comedian” which are…
The November 15th “boxing” match between former YouTuber Jake Paul and former heavy weight champion Mike Tyson may have been a unanimous decision points win for Paul, but it was a disaster on a number of levels. The headlining fight was atrocious. We correctly predicted months ago that the fight would be awful, but we were so focused on the fight that we forgot the other potential failure point; Netflix’s actual stream. It failed so hard someone is suing the streaming platform because of it. If you tried to tune into the live broadcast of the Paul vs Tyson event,…
As 2024 begins to come to a close, it’s time to reflect on where we are and what we’ve experienced to get here. There were good times and bad, and in the realm of video games, some very good times indeed. Some atrocious ones as well, but a lot of good ones. Even with a month to go in the year, The Game Awards has revealed the nominations for the best of the year across gaming. A complete list of nominees for all categories can be found here. If you want to know more about the top 6 titles vying…
“Cape Fear” is getting another remake. The original J. Lee Thompson-directed 1962 film was a captivating thriller that got remade by director Martin Scorsese in 1991. Seems like every three decades or so the story comes back around again. This time, as a series for Apple TV+. The property will be adapted into a 10-episode series for Apple TV+. Javier Bardem is set to play the despicable criminal, Max Cady. The role was previously played by Robert Mitchum and Robert De Niro in the original and remake, respectively. (He was also played by Sideshow Bob in the famous “The Simpsons”…
Well, that didn’t take long! Last month, writer/director Kevin Smith wrestled the rights for “Dogma” away from convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein. The 1999 religious, dark comedy had been tied up with the Weinstein’s, leaving the film and its universe in a fairly untouchable place. Smith wanted to do a 25th anniversary tour of the movie, and had plans for continuing the story in various different forms. A month later- he’s planning a full-fledged sequel. Smith spoke openly and candidly about his plans for a sequel. He wants a continuation to happen despite some fans hoping he leaves the film as-is.…
SHOWTIME hasn’t had a lot to write home about lately in terms of successes. The once vaunted rival network to HBO brought us series like “Shameless,” “Dexter,” “The L Word,” and “Californication” amongst others. Now, the only thing they really have going strong for them is “Yellowjackets.” But that jewel in the crown is accused of ripping the plot and character ideas of a 2015 survival film called “Eden.” If you haven’t watched “Yellowjackets” yet, we don’t really want to go into spoiler territory but when discussing elements of a story allegedly being stolen, some spoiler elements are inevitable. The…
