If you were a child of the ’80s or early ’90s, you may have very fond memories of Jessica Fletcher. The author turned detective was the main character of Murder, She Wrote. The CBS mystery show starred Angela Lansbury as Fletcher, solving murders through her keen author’s mind. She was the cool grandmother every kid wished they had. She also may have been cursed, explaining why death and murder surrounded her. It’s been 30 years since the show ended, but it’s coming back with a film and a new star.

    One Icon to Another

No one can replace Angela Lansbury; that’s just a given fact. When she passed away in 2022, the world lost an icon. It won’t quite be the same seeing Jessica Fletcher played by someone else, but they are getting an amazing actress to take it over. Jamie Lee Curtis will be hopping into the role with a film set to release on Dec. 22, 2027.

The talent behind the camera includes director Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The story will be written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. No plot details have been announced yet. If we had to bet, though, we’re guessing someone’s going to get murdered, and Jessica Fletcher will have to solve it. This isn’t exactly a new formula. Hell, it’s not even new for an author to be solving murder cases. The show Castle basically did this with a bit of Moonlighting thrown in for good measure.

    Curtis’ Career Comeback

We do know that this is just another awesome step for Jamie Lee Curtis in her late career resurgence. Curtis took home an Academy Award in 2023 for Best Supporting Actress in the film Everything Everywhere All at Once. She also returned to the role of Laurie Strode for a fresh trilogy of Halloween films. Let’s also not forget she was in another murder mystery in the form of 2019’s Knives Out.

Fun fact, as much as we might remember Angela Lansbury for being an aging actress on television, she was only 58 years old when Murder, She Wrote started. Jamie Lee Curtis is currently 67 and owning Hollywood harder than ever.

Here’s hoping she brings some magic to the screen when Murder, She Wrote debuts on Dec. 22, 2027.
