AMC will be reopening 100 theaters across the nation on August 20th. They are going to not only be celebrating reopening but also their 100th anniversary. And to do so they are going to offer 15 cent tickets one day only to honor the price of movie tickets sold in the 1920’s.
“Centennial Celebration, all AMC U.S. theatre locations that open on August 20 will offer all available seats for all movies that day for the 1920’s admission price of 15 cents each (while offered on all available seats, to achieve social distancing overall seating capacity will be significantly reduced).”

“We are thrilled to once again open our doors to American moviegoers who are looking for an opportunity to get out of their houses and apartments and escape into the magic of the movies. As our guests return on our first day of resumed operations on August 20, we invite them to join us in celebrating a return to the movies, and in celebrating 100 years of AMC making smiles happen with movies at 1920 prices of only 15 cents each,” said CEO Adam Aron.
Even after opening day movies will be shown at a reduced price of $5 with some of the titles being Inception, Black Panther, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Grease and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. They will also be offering special food packages starting at $5.
300 additional AMC theaters will be opening in the next few weeks. Ramping up to show the few new movies that are premiering such as “New Mutants” on August 28th and “Tenent” on September 3rd.
“One-hundred years later, as AMC reopens its doors to U.S. moviegoers for the first time in more than five months, AMC is celebrating its history with a throwback to the year it all started by offering Movies in 2020 at 1920 Prices.”
In addition to the throwback movie titles that start August 20, guests can enjoy new movie releases almost immediately, which will be available at normal admission prices.

Eventually the cost of the movie ticket will go up however, and more than you would have paid before the pandemic. The extra cleaning costs are going to be incorporated into the ticket and there will be reduced seating to make sure social distancing is going on. So if you’re brave and want to see a 15 cent movie on opening day, then please let us know how the experience was.
