Tokyo Game Show’s Digital Event Happening September 23 to 27

In early May, the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) announced that Tokyo Game Show 2020 was cancelled. This was far from surprising, as COVID-19 has decided to cancel almost every event this year. Conventions such as E3, PAX West and San Diego Comic-Con have also seen cancellations as a result of the pandemic. Originally, the CESA promised a digital event in September but gave no further information. Thanks to a recent press release (via Gematsu) however, we now know the exact dates and what things to expect from the event.

Tokyo Game Show’s digital event will run from September 23 to September 27 on the official Tokyo Game Show website. Everything from large publishers like Atlus to small indie companies will be there to “unveil the latest updates including the release of new titles and services.” We don’t know the exact schedule for the event yet. The CESA promises that a full schedule of events for Tokyo Game Show will release closer to the actual event. However, CESA promises developer round tables, virtual exhibitions, eSports tournaments and news releases will all be present.

Online business matching systems for exhibitors and game-related businesses will be launching at some point in mid-August. If you are interested, the CESA is accepting exhibitor registration and applications for the “Selected Exhibit” in the Indie Game Area right now. Additionally, eligible parties can also apply for the “Sense of Wonder Night 2020.” It’s a competition that recognizes outstanding game ideas from among the exhibitors participating in the “Selected Exhibit.”

Tokyo Game Show 2020 will be free of charge for all to view. To see updates, event confirmations and a list of confirmed attendees check out Tokyo Game Show 2020’s official website.
