Punisher Creator Gerry Conway Creates New Campaign to Support Black Lives Matter

Gerry Conway, co-creator for the popular Marvel Comics character The Punisher, recently put out a call to action to create a new logo to stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. He’s started a campaign on Custom Ink where if you buy one of his four designs on a tee shirt, 100% of the profits will go to Black Lives Matter charities.

As of this writing he has raised over $32,350 dollars for the cause.

The logos were designed and created by a team of artists who answered that call to action. Don Nguyen created the cover image with the bleeding BLM on the top. Other’s who created these designs were Wess Smith, DeMonte Price, Girati, and Jerry Ordway. They all worked to create their own designs to be featured on these shirts to be sold for charity.

Conway has been a long time proponent for what The Punisher actually stands for. Frank Castle is a character that is based on vigilante justice for when the system fails its people. And he has been very vocal about the police’s use of the symbol. Saying they should not hold any of the values that The Punisher stands for. The appropriation for the symbol started as a way for them to highlight the Blue Lives Matter campaign.

Frank Castle aka The Punisher is an anti-hero. He goes up against the corrupt and only was born because of severe incompetence in the justice system. For them to start incorporating this type of vigilante justice symbol is worrisome to say the least.

If you think about it police using the symbol equates to them feeling like they have to use their own vigilante justice against the people who they should be protecting. It’s related to chaos and should not be used by the very institution that is supposed to signify systematic justice and the laws they/we should obey.
