While working on Batwoman Amanda Smith was paralyzed from the hips down. According to her Gofundme it is possible that she will never regain feeling in her legs again.

While doing her job as a production assistant, the bucket of a lift lowered onto her head. She underwent emergency spinal surgery to repair the damage. Unfortunately, with this type of surgery, there is no way to know if it was successful until she undergoes significant therapy. She has a burst T-12, and a  T-11 ASIA A. She underwent a T-11-T-12 Laminectomy, and is fused from T-10-L2. She is currently paralyzed and cannot feel anything from the waist down, however we are holding out hope that with time and rehabilitation, she might regain sensations in her legs.

“She was literally just sitting there and it came down on top of her,” Mancuzzo said. Tyler Mancuzzo told the Vancouver Sun that because of the traffic above she couldn’t hear the lift. So it came out of no where when it hit her.

The Workers’ Compensation Board of British Columbia (WorkSafeBC) has launched an investigation into the incident. “A valued member of the Batwoman production team was recently injured during the preparation of a filming location in Vancouver,” a rep for Warner Bros. TV said in a statement to Deadline. “Our thoughts are with her for a speedy recovery. We are working closely with WorkSafeBC to provide any and all requested information. We continue to work to protect the health and safety of all our crews, casts and employees.”

She has undergone surgery but do to the extremity of the damage there is no way to know if it was successful. Not until they have undergone intensive therapy for who knows how long.

This accident happened just days before they shut down the set due to coronavirus concerns. This could have very well been one of the reasons they decided to postpone production. Especially if something of this magnitude had happened on set.
