Hilary Duff Says a PG Lizzie McGuire Would be a Disservice to Fans

It wasn’t long ago that we were told that due to “creative differences” the creator of the show had walked away from the Lizzie McGuire continuation. It appears that in an attempt to keep it family friendly on Disney + they are limiting the creativity of what the new Lizzie McGuire show could be. Hilary Duff now wants to move the series to the more adult platform, Hulu.

“I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating,” Duff wrote on Instagram. “It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable. It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”

Why the Move Would Make Sense

It would be kind of like how Disney Jr. is a separate channel from Disney HD. If you still have cable that is. If you wanted to watch the old shows for nostalgic reasons you could easily access it on Disney +. But if you wanted to enjoy a girls night, just pop on over to Hulu easy peasy.

Since Disney + is now bundled with Hulu it wouldn’t even really make that much of a difference to viewers. Many of us who have Disney+ have that and Hulu and it wouldn’t effect us at all. We would still be able to watch it and the plus side is the show would probably be better.

Being someone who watched Lizzie McGuire growing up I agree with what Hilary has to say about the reboot. If you could even call it that. Since I am now in my thirties I would like to see her struggle with real adult problems. Tackling issues like relationships, friendships, or maybe even sexuality and politics. This is a fictional character yes but she’s also a role model for kids who have since grown up.

    Precedent for the move

It wouldn’t be the first show that was moved from Disney + to Hulu. Most recently there was a show that was being developed for Disney+ and then deemed “Too Adult”. That show was called Love, Simon and is now carrying over to Hulu changing the name to Love, Victor.

When that happened Hilary Duff was vocal about how it being “Too Adult” for Disney + sounded familiar. That was her way of letting the fans know exactly what was happening. Lucky for us she is still 100% dedicated to the role of Lizzie. But for now we just have to wait to see what Disney will do with the property.
