The White House called Star Wars star Mark Hamill “one sick individual.” The 74-year-old posted an artificial-base image. It showed President Donald Trump lying in a shallow grave. “If Only” was written next to him. Hamill then deleted the image.
The image showed Trump with his eyes closed in a shallow grave adjacent to a headstone that bore his name and the dates “1946–2024.” Hamill posted it on his official Bluesky account on Wednesday. He noted in the caption that Trump should “live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes” and “long enough to realize he’ll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore.”

Hamill’s post came at a politically-charged moment. It was nearly two weeks after a man opened fire. This occurred outside the Washington Hilton ballroom. Trump and other White House officials were gathering there. They were with journalists for the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
The Response
The White House’s Rapid Response 47 communications account took to X, reposting a screenshot of the actor’s post and calling him “one sick individual.” The statement went on to say that “this kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President.”
That’s a very serious accusation. And honestly, the image was a bad move, regardless of your relationship with Trump. The timing made it indefensible, even for his most harried critics.
Hamill took down his first post Thursday afternoon and released an edited version. “Accurate Edit for Clarity,” he wrote. “Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate.”
It was a fair point. His original caption was clear he just wanted Trump alive long enough to get his comeuppance. But match those words to a grim image? That was a different story.
Hamill’s apology
Hamill’s apology didn’t have much effect on the internet’s reaction. After all, he has no official ties to The Mandalorian & Grogu, but the name is connected to Star Wars. This was enough to start a boycott of Disney’s next move. Conservative activist Jack Posobiec asked his followers to skip the film. His post racked up hundreds of thousands of views. This happened in a matter of hours.
Hamill, a known Democrat transplant, was also invited by former President Barack Obama this week to tour his presidential library in Chicago. Which is, after all, why the news cycle moves so fast.
Hamill has lamented in years, including in September, 2025, that Trump’s reelection has left him feeling like he’s in the “minority in my own country,” in a wide-ranging interview on WTF With Marc Maron. That’s always been clear. But poor timing and poor judgment can coexist, and this was both.
It came just weeks before The Mandalorian & Grogu brings Star Wars back to the cinema for the first time in seven years. No one needed this. No one needed Hamill.
