The beloved LGBTQ+ teen romance Heartstopper is heading to Netflix one final time. The fan-favorite series will conclude with an upcoming feature film titled Heartstopper Forever.
On April 22, 2025, Netflix opted to commission a feature-length film. This will serve as the series finale in lieu of a fourth season. The announcement landed on the third anniversary of the show’s debut. This felt fitting.
The feature film will conclude the LGBTQ+ teen romance series. It premiered in 2022. Heartstopper is based on the graphic novels by Alice Oseman. She created the series and wrote the movie script.
Kit Connor and Joe Locke portray “inseparable” high school sweethearts Nick and Charlie. The film will see the couple face their “biggest challenge yet.” They get ready for a long-distance relationship when Nick attends university.

Creator Alice Oseman has been clear about one thing regarding the release timing. “It won’t be coming out before the book,” Oseman firmly stated. “It was so important to me that the book comes out first, so people can experience the end of the story in the book. The series was the adaptation, not the other way around.”
Oseman’s final book in the series, Heartstopper Volume 6, will be released on July 2nd in the UK. It arrives July 7th in America and Canada. That puts the film’s earliest possible arrival sometime after that date.
The film is nearly finished
Oseman also confirms the film is nearly finished. She said, “We are literally days away from it being finished.”
Netflix has enlisted Wash Westmoreland to helm the film. He was the director of Still Alice and Colette. Kit Connor and Joe Locke also serve as executive producers on the project.
In April 2026, it was announced that Olivia Colman would not be returning as Sarah Nelson. She has been recast. Stepping into the role is BAFTA-winning actress Anna Maxwell Martin. She joins the franchise alongside veteran Derek Jacobi in a newly announced cameo role.
Oseman has also revealed that Heartstopper Forever will not follow Volume 6 exactly. Instead, it will blend the final graphic novel with Oseman’s novella Nick and Charlie. It will also chart its own course.
“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Oseman said. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”
Alice Oseman said in a statement
No exact streaming date has been confirmed by Netflix yet but we know it will be sometime in 2026. But with the final book arriving July 2, fans can expect the movie to follow shortly after.
