Garfield is heading back to television! Paramount+ has officially announced that an original 2D animated series featuring our favorite lasagna loving cat is in the works. This will be their attempt to revitalize the franchise and bring it to a younger audience. They’ve chosen Lamorne Morris (New Girl) to voice the iconic character.

The series is of course inspired by the comic strip created by Jim Davis. For decades he entertained us with Garfield comics in the funny pages of the newspaper. Now again, Garfield will grace our screens in a brand new cartoon.

Paramount+ has officially announced a new original 2D-animated series, Garfield (working title), bringing the iconic lasagna-loving orange cat to a new generation of viewers. The upcoming series will feature Emmy® Award-winning actor and comedian Lamorne Morris as the voice of the famously lazy feline.

Since its debut in 1978, the Garfield comic has grown into one of the most widely read comic strips in the world, reaching over 200 million daily readers and building a massive following across social media and global entertainment.

    Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios

The series is being produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with executive producers Dave H. Johnson (Middlemost Post) and John Trabbic III (SpongeBob SquarePants, Middlemost Post) leading the creative team.

    Expanding Paramount+ Kids Programming

The new Garfield series will join Paramount+’s expanding kids and family lineup. The streaming platform recently greenlit additional children’s programming including The Elephant & Piggie Show! and The Pigeon Show! Starring The Pigeon.

Lamorne Morris Takes on the Iconic Role

Morris, best known for his roles in New Girl and the Emmy-winning series Fargo, brings his comedic style to the legendary cat. He will also soon appear in the upcoming series Spider-Noir and is currently filming Jumanji 4.

With its mix of classic comic strip humor and modern animation, the new Garfield series aims to introduce the beloved character to a new generation while giving longtime fans another reason to celebrate everyone’s favorite lazy cat.
