Stop us if you’ve heard this before: there’s a horror movie about a giant snake in the rain forests of the Amazon. Yeah, we’ve heard it too, it’s the film “Anaconda.” The film has a legacy that is equal parts reverence and ridiculousness. Given the fear of snakes that exists in so many people though, there’s still something to mine there for films. That’s why production began on a similarly themed film called “Titan,” it’s just not being called that anymore.
Movie producer Jeremy Bolt had read an article about a prehistoric snake known as the Titanoboa. It’s allegedly the largest snake to have ever existed. You might be able to see where this is going. A group of people, in this case doctors on a humanitarian mission, head into the jungle and awaken the beast. It’s basically “Anaconda” except with doctors instead of documentarians. And instead of a giant anaconda, they awaken Boiúna, which… basically a giant anaconda or titanoboa.
Why Change It?
Perhaps the name, “Titan“ wasn’t helpful for the marketing though as the movie has now had its name changed to reflect the name of the titular creature. The movie is now known as, “Boiúna: Legend of the Amazon.” It seems like a title that is somehow better and worse at the same time. It’s not nearly as succinct and catchy, but it’s also more descriptive. Either way, it’s coming out on the heels of another giant snake movie, the comedic remake of “Anaconda” from last 2025. At least this snake isn’t on a plane though, otherwise it’d be drawing from an entirely different movie.
We don’t have a release date yet for “Boiúna: Legend of the Amazon” but we do have some reason to be optimistic for its quality. The film was actually shot on locations in South America and used a largely Colombian crew. In a movie landscape where digital effects and techniques are often substituted for location filming, this is welcome to hear. It’s touches like this which can elevate the artistic quality of a film and give even a B-movie something to admire.
We’ll continue to update you when we get a trailer and a release date.
