We have some exciting news for all the horror hounds out there. Sales and production company EST N8 has cut a deal for the rights to “Janur Ireng: Sewu Dino the Prequel.” Well, the international rights anyway. This movie is a follow-up to the wildly popular Indonesian horror film “Sewu Dino.”

This deal excludes Indonesia and Taiwan, with selective rights in Southeast Asia.

Directed by Kimo Stamboel and written by Agasyah Karim, Khalid Kashogi, and SimpleMan, “Sewu Dino” hit theaters in 2023. It tells the story of Sri, who must do a cleansing ritual for Dela Atmojo, an unconscious girl suffering from 1000 days-hex. Unfortunately, her friend doesn’t finish the ritual, leading to disastrous consequences on the 1000th day of the hex.

The same team returned for the 2025 follow-up, “Janur Ireng: Sewu Dino the Prequel.” Set years before the previous film, it dives into how dark rituals and ancient magic merged to create a terrifying entity.

The film premiered in Indonesia on December 24th, before being presented to international buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market. Where this deal was eventually struck.

“We are excited to continue our collaboration with top Indonesian genre talent and expand the ‘Sewu Dino’ universe for global audiences,” said Sophie Shi, head of EST N8 studios. “Kimo Stamboel is one of the most dynamic horror directors working today, and Janur Ireng delivers the scale and mythology that international fans are looking for.”
