Post Lets Customers Buy Cereal With Rocks

Cereal maker Post is offering customers in select locations a unique way to buy some of their products. From September 8th through the 17th, select Walmart stores will let people buy Fruity Pebbles (or any Post) cereal with rocks. Yup, this downright stone-aged promotion allows pebbles, rocks, or stones to be used instead of cash.

Quantity doesn’t matter either; bring one rock or a handful to buy your breakfast treat.

And Post is really committing to the bit by offering this deal at four specific Walmarts, 75% of which have the word “rock” in their name. The one exception is Bentonville, Arkansas, home to Walmart headquarters.

This prehistoric deal will take place from 11 AM to 4 PM for one day only at each location:

    • Rock Hill, SC: September 8, Walmart Supercenter #585
    • Little Rock, AR: September 12, Walmart Supercenter #7
    • Bentonville, AR: September 14, Walmart Supercenter #5260
    • Round Rock, TX: September 17, Walmart Supercenter #5480

What will Post do with the rocks?

Once each event wraps, “all rocks will be collected and donated to local parks and recreation departments in participating cities.” So there is even a chance you could get your payment back if you visit the right park.

We can’t wait to see if other food companies follow this same idea. Or maybe Post will go even further, like having people bring in their unwanted grapes for Raisin Brand, or a drawing of a bee for a box of Honey Comb or Honey Bunches of Oats. How about some pixie dust to get a jar of Peter Pan?
