Babysitter Checks for Monster Under Kid’s Bed, Finds a Man

This is a story that comes almost straight from urban legends or a horror movie; made all the more horrific by the fact it really happened. Everyone knows the concept of children being afraid of a monster under their bed. It’s a fairly standard story about childhood fears and one that occurs to some kids in real life as well. But what if someone went to check under the bed and there actually was something under there? Now imagine it’s not a monster but a grown man.

That’s precisely what occurred at a house near Great Bend, Kansas on March 24th. As a babysitter was putting the children to bed, one of them said that there was a monster under the bed. What better way to comfort a child than to look under the bed and prove to them that the unseen leaves much to the imagination and the fears we have are just manifestations. Except that doesn’t entirely work when it turns out there’s a 27-year-old man under the bed. Some kind of an altercation seems to have happened and the man escaped from the house.

Why was the man there? Allegedly, he was a former resident of the house who had a protection from abuse order filed against him. A search was conducted for the man and he was found the next morning in the area of the home that he fled from. The suspect was charged with a number of crimes including aggravated kidnapping, burglary, battery, and more. He was being hold on $500,000 bond which at least mitigates some of the creepiness of the idea of him being free and doing that again.

We can’t help but recall urban legends like the story about the babysitter who gets a phone call where a creepy voice asks how the children upstairs are. Or there’s the story about a young person who goes to bed and is greeted by their dog laying under the bed and licking their hand. Until you find out it wasn’t a dog, but a killer. This story has traces of those horrifying elements mixed together and is nothing but pure nightmare fuel. So, uh. There’s that… sweet dreams everybody!
