Did you think it was finally safe to go back into the water? Well, think again because Steven Spielberg‘s “Jaws” turns 50 this year. Among the onslaught of tributes, numerous activities in Martha’s Vineyard (where the movie was filmed), and a re-release of “The Game of Jaws,” the film will be returning to theaters!

The TCM Classic Film Festival will host the first screening of “Jaws” in April. Then the iconic horror film will hit theaters nationwide from August 29th through September 4th courtesy of Universal.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will also host screenings in May, accompanied by special menus and  limited-edition merchandise. Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow will hold a special on the water screening in Martha’s Vineyard on June 21st. More on the water screenings will be held on Lake Travis in Austin, Texas, in June and July.

“Jaws” is based on a 1974 novel of the same name by Peter Benchley. It centers around a large great white shark that is wreaking havoc on a small Long Island resort town. Culminating in several locals setting out on a mission to kill it.

The next year, Spielberg’s film adaptation became the first true summer blockbuster. Forever changing the landscape of beaches, and the box office. It stars Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton.

We’ll keep you posted on “Jaws” turning 50 as more celebrations/tributes are announced.
