The upcoming “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle” has found its star. Lexi Minetree (“The Murdaugh Murders”) will portray a teenage Elle Woods! The role was originally filled by Reese Witherspoon, who broke the news to Minetree in an adorable exchange.

Amazon MGM Studios and Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine have been developing a prequel series to the early 2000s romantic comedies “Legally Blonde” and “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” for some time now. “Elle” will follow the titular character through high school, showing us the experiences that shaped the icon we know today.

The role of a young Elle Woods was highly sought after, with plenty of audition tapes to get through. Witherspoon used the video of her giving Minetree the good news to announce it to the world.

“Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods,” the Instagram video is captioned. “After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree”

The show is created by Laura Kittrell (“Insecure”) who is also working as co-showrunner and executive producer with Caroline Dries. Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt are also attached to executive produce.

This early into development, there is no set release window for “Elle.” We’ll keep you posted on updates about the series as it develops. You can check out the adorable announcement video below:
