Peacock Cancels “Hysteria!” After One Season

It doesn’t look like we left the onslaught of streamers canceling highly rated shows in 2024. Peacock has canceled its horror series “Hysteria!” after just one season.

Set during the satanic panic of the late 1980s, “Hysteria!” takes place after the disappearance of a beloved varsity quarterback. A struggling heavy metal band of high school outcasts realizes they can capitalize on the town’s sudden fascination with the occult. So they start building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, to further push the chaos. That is, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported supernatural activity starts to happen. Events that trigger a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to the band

The series debuted on Peacock in October of last year. Since the streamer doesn’t release viewership data, it’s hard to determine the exact cause of the cancellation. Despite its 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it hasn’t hit the Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts since its release. So it’s possible this is a classic case of being beloved by critics, but failing to reach a target audience.

The cast of “Hysteria!” includes Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn. Several recurring roles were portrayed by Bruce Campbell, Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti, and Jessica Treska.

“Hysteria!”’s first and only season is streaming exclusively on Peacock. You can check out the trailer below:
