Every so often, a studio will announce a reboot, revisit, or reimagining, and we’re left scratching our heads and asking some questions. Mostly those include “why?,” “what the?,” and “who asked for this?.” Such is the news today, with word Amazon MGM is looking to bring a new take on “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” to audiences.
Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson of Eon Productions are reportedly in development with Amazon MGM Studios on the project, which is in the VERY, very early stages.
What’s fun about the original story “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car” is that it was written by Sir Ian Fleming, who created the iconic British spy character, James Bond. When the book was adapted as a film in 1968, it had a script by author Roald Dahl, and was produced by the Broccoli family. (The Broccolis have also produced pretty much every single Bond film.)
This project is SO in the early stages, there’s no mention of a possible writer or director yet.
The original film starred cinematic treasure Dick Van Dyke, and a title song by the legendary duo Robert and Richard Sherman.
