DC Studios and HBO’s “Lanterns” series is wrapping up the casting stages of production. And you know what that means, fantasy casting galore!

Current reports indicate Aaron Pierre (“Rebel Ridge”) and Stephan James (“The Piano Lesson”) are in the mix to possibly play the character John Stewart. Damson Idris (“Snowfall”) was also allegedly in talks to star in the upcoming show, but it seems he is no longer in the running.

It is unknown if Pierre and James are testing or reading for the role. A decision may be reached as early as this weekend.

At this time, HBO and DC have made no official comment on who either may play in “Lanterns.”

    John Stewart

Stewart is one of the most significant characters in DC Comics’ stable. Written by Dennis O’Neil and drawn by Neal Adams, he was introduced in 1971’s “Green Lantern No. 87.” Twelve years after Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps were established. He was also one of the company’s first black superheroes.

Whoever lands the part will be working alongside Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”), who is playing Hal Jordan. After Josh Brolin was made the offer but decided to pass on it.

The series will follow Hal as he reluctantly mentors a younger Green Lantern, John. All while, the pair get pulled into a murder mystery in the American heartland.

“Lanterns” will be written and executive produced by Chris Mundy (“Ozark”), Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”), and Eisner Award-winning comic creator Tom King. Mundy will also be working as the showrunner.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about this project as it develops.
