Jack Black Says Tenacious D Will “Be Back”

Actor/musician Jack Black says that his band Tenacious D will reunite… at some point. This is after he announced last month that all future projects between him and bandmate Kyle Gass were “on hold.” The initial declaration was due to a joke Gass made about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump during a show.

“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime,” Black told Variety during Tuesday’s primere for his new film “Borderlands.” “And we’ll be back.”

When asked if he and Gass had spoken since the on-stage remark; “Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”

    Gass’ Comment

On July 14th, Tenacious D was performing at the ICC Sydney Theatre in Australia, one day after Trump was shot at during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The former president’s ear was struck in the event. During the concert to celebrate Gass’ 64th birthday he was given a cake. When Black asked Gass to make a wish, Gass said “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

Soon after Gass’ joke Black issued a statement via social media. “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday,” he wrote. “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.”

“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold,” he added. “I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

We are sure this recent announcement has nothing to do with the backlash from the internet in support of Gass.

Black’s latest film, “Borderlands,” hits theaters on August 9th. We’ll keep you posted on updates about Tenacious D as they become available.
