First Look at Fan-Wielding Katana in “Mortal Kombat 2”

Fans of the original Mortal Kombat game can easily recite to you the names of the seven main fighters. Hell, even if you’re not a fan you could probably name them from them being listed off in the first film’s unforgettable main theme. “Kano, Liu Kang, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya… MORTAL KOMBAAAAT!” Of course, the series mythology and lore has grown since then, with “Mortal Kombat 2” introducing some key characters, with Princess Kitana being one of the biggest players. Now we’ll get to see how big a role she plays in the film franchise as revealed in a teaser image.

It may be hard to remember thanks to the world being a chaotic landscape over the last five years, but back in April of 2021 there was a new live-action Mortal Kombat movie, fittingly titled, “Mortal Kombat.” Remember that one? Well if you don’t, we don’t blame you considering we didn’t find it much to write home about. It didn’t manage to pull huge numbers at the box office either but considering the pandemic was still going hard at that point in time and the film released simultaneously to streaming on HBO Max.

We reported previously that Adeline Rudolph would be taking up the mantle of the princess of Outworld, and it looks like the costume department is living up to expectations in bringing Kitana to life. The character was previously portrayed by Talisa Soto in the 1995 “Mortal Kombat” film and it’s sequel that… well, let’s just hope this upcoming movie doesn’t follow in its foot steps.

Rudolph gained recognition for her portrayal of Agatha in “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” as well as the short lived “Resident Evil” series on Netflix from 2022. Remember that one? No? Man its been a weird half a decade hasn’t it? Anyway, it’ll be a busy time for the Kitana actress as she’ll also be appearing in “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” as well. Both are film franchises that could really use a shot in the arm, and maybe Rudolph can fan the flames of success for “Mortal Kombat 2″ when it hits theaters October 24th, 2025.
