The 1979 film “The Warriors,” based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel of the same name, has been a huge cultural touchstone for decades, and like any landmark in pop culture there always artists making work inspired by it. Now, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis will be teaming up with Nas and producer Mike Elizondo for a new album “Warriors,” based on the film.
“The Warriors”
“The Warriors,” follows a New York City street gang as they attempt to go from Coney Island to the Bronx. After, they are falsely accused of killing Cyrus, an almost universally respected gang leader. Their journey takes them through the territory of several rival gangs, who they must defeat before continuing their trek.
Now, Miranda and Davis will used the gang’s 30-mile quest as inspiration for their own musical score. Nas will executive produce the album alongside Elizondo. The group seeks to create an “immersive” listening experience, with a “star-studded cast of voices.” However, there is no word on who the vocalist might be, just yet.
“We’ve spent the past three years musicalizing the Warriors’ journey home, from the South Bronx to Coney Island,” said Miranda and Davis. “Along the way we’ve gotten to work with a lot of our favorite artists, and we’ll be announcing their roles on the album in the weeks ahead. We can’t wait to share these songs with you on October 18th.”
“Warriors” will hit shelves on October 18th, you can pre-order your copy here. Check out the announcement video from Atlantic Records below:
