Oscar Mayer Wienermobile Tips Over During Accident

“My car crash has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R. My car crash has a second name it’s M-A-Y-E-R. Cuz Oscar Mayer has a way with promotional vehicles which must be terribly ungainly to control in the event of of a potential accident unfolding.” Sure hat may not sound like the traditional Oscar Mayer jingle, but it’s a lot more true to life, and if you don’t believe us then take a look at what happened near the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook on Monday.

Before that image was caught on camera, that Wienermobile was on its side in the middle of the road. According to reports, the novelty vehicle had accidentally clipped another vehicle, and the driver lost control. In their attempt to regain a handle on the hot dog shaped vessel, it ended up on its side. No injuries were reported though the northbound of I-294 was closed for about an hour. Also, the hot dog was rendered inedible due to being in violation of the 5 second rule.

Wienermobiles are pretty legendary for what they are. In terms of a marketing gimmick it’s a good one for sure. We reported a few years back when a couple of them went up for sale in Alberta, Canada. They’ve been a staple in pop culture since first being introduced all the way back in the 1930’s. However, as well remembered as they are, there was a tine where they decommissioned all the vehicles. From 1977 to 1985, the roads of America were wiener-less. In 1986 though, the Wienermobile came back and has been with us ever since.

All things considered then, it’s kind of fascinating there haven’t been more wiener related accidents than there have been. This one earlier this week wasn’t the only one, there have been others. Notably an incident occurred in 2009 when the Wienermobile went through a section of a person’s porch and deck of their house. We tell ya, there’s nothing to put a dent in your day like a giant wiener crashing into you. But hey, that’s the price you pay for having a lasting cultural icon cruising across this great nation, right!? Right!
