Tom Cruise Celebrates “Edge Of Tomorrow” 10th Anniversary

Since 1981, actor Tom Cruise has lit up the big screen with iconic roles in films like “A Few Good Men,” “Jerry Maguire,” and the “Top Gun” and “Mission: Impossible” film franchises. Over the past decade, the fanbase around the 2014 Cruise-led film, “Edge Of Tomorrow” has also been growing. While the movie didn’t take the box office by storm, like many films, it has found its audience in the home video/streaming market.

Cruise made the thread on X (formally Twitter) to mark the movie’s 10th anniversary. “It’s been 10 years since Edge of Tomorrow first hit theaters,” he posted accompanied by a trailer. “I want to take the opportunity to thank Emily Blunt once again for being such a great friend and brilliant actress. I love her performance in this film. Her dedication. Her humor. Her vulnerability and power. She brought it all.”

“This anniversary brings back incredible memories,” he added. “My first collaboration with Doug Liman. Rejoining the indomitable Brendan Gleeson. And my first time working alongside the great Bill Paxton. His performance and the character he created left an indelible mark on this film. Hitting this kind of tone was no easy task. The writing and storytelling of Christopher McQuarrie made the movie work. Along with the dedication of our entire team who helped bring it to the screen—it was an absolute joy creating it with you all. To everyone who has enjoyed this film over the years, thank you for being a fan. And thank you to Warner Bros. for making this film. I can’t wait to share more about the great movies we’re working on.”

    “Edge Of Tomorrow”

Based on the novel “All You Need Is Kill” by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, “Edge Of Tomorrow,” is essentially an alien invasion movie meets “Groundhog Day” in concept. Cruise plays a soldier named Cage, tasked with fighting a war against alien invaders. While trying to figure out how to beat these “Mimics” he gets stuck in a time loop where he must relive the day over and over again. The clock for this time loop only restarts each time he dies.

The movie is directed by Doug Liman (2024’s “Road House”) from a script co-written by Christopher McQuarrie (“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”), Jez Butterworth (“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”), and John-Henry Butterworth (“Nine Perfect Strangers”).

    Sequel?

Of course, this was met with pleas from fans for a sequel but it doesn’t seem like that will come to fruition anytime soon. The rumored follow-up film “Live Die Repeat and Repeat” has been stuck in development since at least 2018.

It’s been 10 years since Edge of Tomorrow first hit theaters!
