Disney ‘in Conversations’ With Alex Hirsch For “Gravity Falls” Revival

In 2012, the animated series “Gravity Falls,” created by Alex Hirsch, premiered on Disney Channel. The show ran for two seasons with the second airing on Disney XD in 2015. Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television Meredith Roberts recently hinted that the company is in talks about a revival.

“You know, we’re in conversations with Alex. He’s about to publish a book with Disney on his project. And we also do some shorts. So never say never,” Roberts told The Direct.

“Gravity Falls,” follows the adventures of twins Dipper Pines (Jason Ritter) and Mabel (Kristen Schaal). The siblings are spending a summer with their great-uncle Stan’s (Hirsch) Mystery Shack located in Gravity Falls, Oregon. While Stan’s shop is filled with obvious hoaxes, the twins discover that the town is full of paranormal activity. Leading the pair on many epic adventures, often with Mable’s pet pig Waddles in tow. [Writer’s note; if Waddles is omitted from a revival I will start riots]

    What May Stop A Revival

The “Gravity Falls” series finale broke the viewership record for Disney XD by drawing in 2.9 million viewers. And the fact its fanbase has only grown, Disney’s desire to bring back the show isn’t a huge surprise. The hurdle here may be if Hirsch wants it to come back. He has been very clear over the years that “Gravity Falls” end was his decision.

“This is 100% my choice, and its something I decided on a very long time ago,” Hirsch wrote in a Tumblr post. “I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.”

However, later in the same post, he added; “I know that there will be many fans who will be sad to see the Pines family go, but just because I’ve finished the story I wanted to tell doesn’t necessarily mean we will never see Dipper, Mabel, & Stan again. It means that this chapter is closed, and that I, at least for now, am personally done telling their story.”

We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Gravity Falls” revival if/when they develop. The entire series is currently available to stream on Disney+.
