Tom Hollander Mistakenly Got Tom Holland’s Bonus Check

Some celebrities have very similar names like athlete Michael Jordan and actor Michael B. Jordan or musician Tommy Lee and actor Tommy Lee Jones. Of course, this can lead to a lot of confusion and potentially mis-crediting the wrong person. Well, someone in British actor Tom Hollander (“Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The White Lotus“) and fellow Brit Tom Holland’s (“Spider-Man”) agency accidentally sent Hollander a check meant for Holland.

“People in the accounts’ department of my agency got confused,” explained Hollander during a interview on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” “We were with the same agents…briefly. And it was a terrible moment. I went to see my friend who was doing theater in England. I sat smugly in the audience just having done a BBC show for $30,000 … the interval came and I checked my email and I got one from the agency saying, ‘Payment slip for first box office bonus for ‘The Avengers.’”

After a brief bit of confusion, “I don’t think I’m in ‘The Avengers,‘” he opened the e-mail to discover it was intended for Holland.

“It was an astonishing amount of money,” said Hollander. “It was not his salary. It was his first box-office bonus. Not the whole box office bonus, the first one. And it was more money than I’d ever [seen]. It was a seven-figure sum.” First bonuses and residuals are often ‘the big one,’ as those tend to decrease over time. And we also hear those Marvel Studios‘ paydays aren’t small.

Hollander will star in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming anthology drama “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” which hits January 31st. Holland MAY return for a forth installment of “Spider-Man,” but the future of the character, as well as a a lot of comic franchises, seems to be up in the air right now. (We are looking forward to his Fred Astaire biopic, though.)
