“Cobra Kai” Casts C.S. Lee in Iconic “Karate Kid” Role

Actor C.S. Lee (“Dexter”) has officially joined the cast of Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” series for its sixth and final season. The show is based on “The Karate Kid” films, Lee will be playing the role of Master Kim Sun-Young. Until now, Master Kim has only been shown in films and series in flashback form.

The role of Master Kim has been previously portrayed by Jun Chong in “The Karate Kid” and Don Lee in season 5 of “Cobra Kai.”  At this time it is unknown if Lee will also play this role in flashbacks or the present. While all signs would point to the former, all bets are off in a show’s final season.

Currently, Netflix and series producer Sony Pictures TV are keeping details about the upcoming season’s plot under wraps.

Master Kim’s granddaughter, Kim Da-Eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim) only entered the series last season at the behest of Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith). Both franchise mainstays Silver and John Kreese (Martin Kove) studied under Master Kim. The character is also credited with creating The Way of the Fist, a ruthless style of martial arts that is the antithesis of the teachings of Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita). So while his physical presence on “Cobra Kai’ may be rare, his impact on the universe is deep.

    Netflix

Netflix renewed the series for its sixth and final season back in January. Originally the streamer planned on a December release, but that was scrapped when the writers’ room shut down in May for the WGA strike. Now that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have been resolved, the writers have been back to work on the new season for about a month. The cast and crew are currently planning to start filming in early 2024.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Cobra Kai” as they become available. All 5 seasons are currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
