Bear Attacks Security Guard in Hotel Kitchen [Video]

Have you ever worked in a full service kitchen? It can be a stressful job; lack of staffing, high demands, and a lot of guests. The same can be said for restaurants in general, as has more recently been detailed on the FX series, “The Bear.” OH! And speaking of bears and kitchens, turns out there’s video of a cranky bear assaulting a security guard in a kitchen!

At the St. Regis Aspen Resort in Colorado, there were some reports of not just a bear on the premises, but IN the premises. The resort is currently closed for renovations, but the bear was (we assume) not part of the renovating team. Under any other circumstances, sending a man up to a closed Colorado hotel to take care of it sounds like the start of a Stephen King novel. In this case, it wasn’t anything supernatural.

But there definitely was a bear.

The confrontation between the two went about as well as you might expect. The bear won. Fortunately the security guard was not too badly injured, mostly receiving scratches. He was treated at the hospital and is reportedly fine. As for the bear, unfortunately it’s not a very happy ending for him.

    9News

The bear had left the premises by the time the Colorado Parks and Wildlife caught up with it. On Tuesday, officials found the bear in a nearby park, sedated it, and humanely euthanized it. This is their policy when it comes to animals that have posed a threat to people. Though perhaps his spirit will live on through the grounds of the hotel, terrifying kitchen workers and security guards for centuries to come.

In all seriousness though, the guard is lucky he got away from the situation with as minimal of injuries as he did. Bear attacks can be horrific due to the sheer size of the animals and their level of aggression when angered. At least reports of bear attacks are rare but when they happen, they can often be fatal. So for that security guard who faced a bear head-on, here’s hoping that resort restaurant treats you to dinner. It was well earned.
