Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” Gets First Red Band Trailer

Director Eli Roth is FINALLY bringing his “Thanksgiving,”  from 2007’s “Grindhouse,” to life! After almost 16 years of waiting, we’ve got our first Red Band trailer to prove it’s actually happening.

“Thanksgiving,” will focus on Plymouth, Massachusetts, the birthplace of the holiday, being terrorzed by a Thanksgiving-inspired killer. Who springs up after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy.

The full-length trailer removes the roughed-up film feel of the original faux and teaser trailers. Instead it seems like Roth is crafting a more slick, modern day slasher. That is still transparently resting on the traditions of an ‘80s slasher, complete with copious amounts of gore.

Which is saying something for a director who became well known for helping to bring the torture porn horror subgenre to America. “Thanksgiving,” looks like it will be a return to those roots of introducing a cast of attractive young actors and then brutally slaughtering them one-by-one. Having each death becoming increasingly more bizzare and violently Thanksgiving-themed.

The trailer seems like we are getting a good old fashioned cheesy slasher. With all of the polish in veneer you’d expect from a more modern, meta horror movie. Which makes sense given Roth’s “Cabin Fever” has a very vintage feel. Where as his more recent “Knock Knock” feels more sleek and modern. Basically it looks like this film will marry his two aethetics in a seamless way.

The cast for “Thanksgiving” includes Patrick Dempsey (“Devils”), Addison Rae (“He’s All That”), Jalen Thomas Brooks (“Walker”), Milo Manheim (“Zombies”), Nell Verlaque (“Big Shot”), Gina Gershon (“Chucky”), Tim Dillon (“Timing”), and Rick Hoffman (“Hostel”).

The feature length version of “Thanksgiving” comes courtesy of TriStar Pictures and Spyglass Media Group. From a script co-written by Roth and Jeff Rendell. With Roth also producing alongside Roger Birnbaum.

“Thanksgiving” will slash its way into theaters on November 17. You can check out the full Red Band trailer below:
