Paramount+ has released the first trailer for its upcoming horror film, “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.” Directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer from a script she co-wrote with Jeff Buhler, it will serve as a prequel to the 2019 film “Pet Sematary,” directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer.
Both movies are based on the 1983 novel of the same name by master of horror, Stephen King. The novel was first adapted into a film starring Miko Hughes and Fred Gwynne in 1989. Its sequel, “Pet Sematary Two,” was released in 1992 and was a continuation of the original story.
“Pet Sematary: Bloodlines,” however, will be a prequel to the 2019 film. Based in 1969, it follows a young Jud Crandall (Jackson White) who is getting out of his hometown of Ludlow, Maine. But before he makes it out Jud and his childhood friends encounter an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding.
The legendary Pam Grier, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, David Duchovny, and Samantha Mathis also star. Producers for “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” include Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.
King’s novel focuses on the Creed family in Ludlow, Maine. Their elderly neighbor, Jud Crandall, introduces Louis Creed to the pet sematary hidden away in the woods behind his house. Which is an ancient burial ground that posses the supernatural ability to resurrect the dead. When the Creed’s young son Gage dies, a grief-stricken Louis buries him in the pet sematary. Only for the young boy to come back as a twisted demonic entity. Reminding us all that while loss hurts, “sometimes dead is better.”
“Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on October 6th. We’ll keep you posted on updates about this project as they become available. In the meantime, check out the trailer below:
