India has become the first country to land a spacecraft near the south pole of the Moon. They are the fourth country to land on the moon. This historic voyage to the uncharted territory has scientist believing they could find vital reserves of frozen water. What a technical triumph for the nation with the most population!

After failing to join the “space race” in 2019, India’s Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the moon’s surface at 06:04pm local time. Celebrations sparked all over the country, especially in Bengaluru, India, where space scientist cheered the successful landing. The success of this mission showcases that the country’s technology asserts their standing among the global elite.

Within the next day, the rover on Chandrayaan-3 will slide onto the moon’s surface and conduct experiments. The mission, which began over a month ago, is at an estimated cost of $75 million, and is expected to last another two weeks. After this success, India’s next mission is to send a manned craft to the moon. With the nation rising to world’s fifth largest economy, its not hard to believe that mission has major potential for success.

This successful lunar mission comes days after Russia’s Luna-25 crashed while trying to land in the same area. As the people of India watched, many prayed for the mission to be a success. A video of Chandrayaan-3’s soft-landing can be seen here. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has been working steadily since the 1960s, launching satellites for itself and other countries.

Let us all enjoy this glorious mission and congratulate India for their advancements in technology and space travel.
