“The Walking Dead: Dead City,” “Daryl Dixon” Get Early Renewals

AMC has already renewed its two spin-offs of “The Walking Dead” series. During San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), the cabler announced “Dead City” (starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan) would get a second season. ‘“Daryl Dixon,” starring Norman Reedus as the fan-favorite character, was also renewed for a second season.

“This next chapter in the Walking Dead Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for Dead City and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon coming in September,” AMC President of Entertainment Dan McDermott said during the panel. “We can’t wait to bring Dead City fans back to the epicenter of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan. And, ahead of its debut, we’re thrilled to double down on Daryl as we bring the apocalypse to France, transforming Notre Dame, Pont du Gard and other iconic locales into an apocalyptic landscape unlike anything we’ve seen before.”

“Dead City” will wrap its 6 episode first season on Sunday.

“Daryl Dixon” won’t hit the air until September 10th. The series was originally meant to be a spin-off focused on Daryl and his fellow bad-ass Carol (Melissa McBride). But McBride’s schedule made shooting in France logistically impossible. Though it has been reported will have some part in the show.

As for the rest of “The Walking Dead” expanded universe, the rest of the eighth and final season of “Fear the Walking Dead” will air October 22nd. “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” will air sometime in 2024. That series is focused on the exploits of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). It was originally meant to be a trilogy of feature films but changed into a six-episode limited series.

There is also still the possibility of the episodic anthology “Tales of the Walking Dead” returning. Though that is dependent on if franchise creative chief Scott M. Gimple feels there are more quality stories to be crafted for it. The Robert Kirkman comic-based universe also had “The Walking Dead: World Beyond,” which only ran for two seasons.

In addition to these renewals, AMC also debuted trailers for “Daryl Dixon,” the second half of “Fear The Walking Dead,” and a teaser for “The Ones Who Live.”
