While he is best known for his acting and meme status, Keanu Reeves is also a founding member and bass player for the grunge band Dogstar. After the band reunited last summer, they have just confirmed they will be releasing new music and performing for the first time in over 20 years!

Formed in the mid-1990s Dogstar released the EP Quattro Formaggi in 1996. Which was soon followed by the albums Our Little Visionary also released in 1996, and the fittingly titled, Happy Ending in 2000. The band played its last show in October of 2002 and broke up shortly after. Despite Reeves’ notoriety, the band’s music was often poorly received. “I guess it would have helped if our band was better,” he joked in a 2019 interview with GQ.

After Dogstar quietly reunited last summer, it seems that they are itching to hit the studio again. Last week the band posted images from a rooftop photoshoot to their official Instagram. While the post teases “ Exciting news coming soon.” It seems the reception to the images was so overwhelmingly positive they decided to just spill the beans.

“Thank you everyone for the kind comments,” they wrote in the comments section of the post. “We are overjoyed to see such a response! Honestly, didn’t expect this. It makes us want to play out even more.”

Dogstar then confirmed they would be putting out new music as well as playing some shows.  “We will be rolling out some new music this summer, followed by some gigs,” the band wrote. “As soon as it’s all figured out we will let everyone know immediately. So much to do, but rest assured, we are on it and have assembled a fantastic team that are helping us. We are also going to make a music video to support our first tune… It’s the most satisfying and meaningful batch of songs we’ve ever done.”

Yesterday, the BottleRock Festival in Napa Valley posted to Twitter that Dogstar would be playing the event on Saturday, May 27th. Making it their first live performance in over two decades.

And the additional teased performances are sure to keep Reeves’ busy. “John Wick: Chapter 4” is currently playing in theaters nationwide. He will also be starring in the new film “Good Fortune” alongside Seth Rogen and star/director Aziz Ansari. Reeves is also set to star in the new dark comedy “Outcome” with Jonah Hill.

We’ll keep you posted on new about those projects and Dogstar as they become available.
